Weddings Around the World: Colombian Unity Candle

colombian weddingIt's getting quite hot out, which is sending our minds to equally warm places around the world. This week's wedding ceremony hails from Colombia, and embraces the symbolic union of man and wife in a ceremony that occurs after the bride and groom exchange rings. The candle-lighting ceremony at a Colombian wedding is both simple and sweet. Three candles are placed by the newly married couple. The groom lights the candle on the left, and the bride lights the candle on the right. When both candles are lit, the bride and groom use them to simultaneously light the center candle. After the center candle is lit, the bride and groom put out the their individual candles. This little ritual implies that the two are now joined together as one body for the rest of their lives. Following this ritual, the reception begins and the bride and groom dance to traditional music. Isn't that a bright idea?Info via
