Global Weddings: A Moroccan Purifying Ritual

moroccan milk bath A couple of posts ago, we covered the Indian tradition of decorating a bride's hands with henna on the night before the wedding. Today, we travel to Morocco, where wedding festivities go on for up to seven days, and include a number of customs that take place prior to decorating a Moroccan woman's hands with henna. Before her hands are temporarily tattooed, a Moroccan bride's negaffa or negassa (female attendants) will preside over her while she takes a purifying milk bath. Afterwards, she is dressed in a decorative caftan and adorned with jewelry and dark kohl eyeliner. Not only is the bride purified, but she is relaxed and pampered before her big day. We love it!Info via
